The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pursov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pursov showed some decent athleticism there.
Ortiz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ortiz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Pursov scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pursov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ortiz has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Pursov is on him like a limpet, forcing Ortiz back against the cage.

Pursov breaks from the clinch.
Pursov thuds his right hand into Ortiz's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

It looks like Irwin Ortiz has been cut.
A combination from Pursov does no damage.
Pursov throws a half hearted mid kick.
Ortiz attempts a counter takedown but Pursov avoids it well and moves away.

Ortiz breaks Pursov's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Ortiz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pursov, up you get!

Pursov throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ortiz counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Ortiz takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Ortiz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pursov to the ground. Ortiz is now in Pursov's guard.
Pursov wants to get back to his feet but Ortiz passes into half guard.

Ortiz gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Ortiz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pursov as he avoids it easily.
Pursov throws a counter combo.
Ortiz avoids the head kick by Pursov.

Pursov darts in and clinches Ortiz up against the cage.

Ortiz is trying to drag Pursov to the mat but Pursov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Ortiz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pursov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Pursov's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ortiz slips a jab and a cross from Pursov.

Ortiz has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Pursov is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Pursov comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Pursov swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Pursov pushes Ortiz up against the cage in a clinch.

Ortiz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pursov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ortiz drops down looking for a counter takedown but Pursov sprawls and moves away.
Pursov stuffs the takedown attempt from Ortiz. Ortiz gets slowly back to his feet.

Pursov clinches up with Ortiz and pushes him back against the cage.

Pursov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pursov throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ortiz counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Pursov misses with a double jab.
Ortiz tries for a takedown but Pursov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Pursov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ortiz to the mat! Ortiz manages to get full guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Pursov drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ortiz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pursov has Ortiz in his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortiz stops Pursov from standing up.
Pursov is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ortiz stands up and waves to Pursov to follow him.

Pursov closes the distance and pushes Ortiz back into the cage.
Pursov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ortiz tries to pull guard but Pursov forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Pursov jumps into guard, dragging Ortiz to the mat.

Ortiz stands up from Pursov's guard - Ortiz perhaps looking for a knockout.
No joy there for Pursov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ortiz was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Pursov throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ortiz.

Pursov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ortiz did well to prevent Pursov getting side control.

Ortiz kicks Pursov off and gets back to his feet.
Ortiz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
