Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rich Jenkins (ranked 8140 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Shield (ranked 4171 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rich Jenkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Walter Shield!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jenkins wants to clinch up but Shield keeps it at a distance.

Shield gets a takedown into half guard.
Shield takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shield works his way into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shield wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jenkins keeps working.
Shield tries to score with some ground and pound. Jenkins controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Shield tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Jenkins is not content to let Shield control the position.
Jenkins dodges the ground and pound from Shield.
Jenkins is trying to escape the position but Shield is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jenkins tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shield wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Shield wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jenkins keeps working.
Shield throwing strikes but Jenkins manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Shield wants to control but Jenkins postures up.
Shield is pushing Jenkins's head away, looking to escape. Jenkins manages to hold on to the position though.
Shield takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Shield manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Jenkins wants to work for an arm triangle but Shield is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Shield makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Shield.
Shield has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Shield can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jenkins controls the pace.
Shield is trying to keep Jenkins in close.
Jenkins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jenkins not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jenkins wants to control from the top but Shield keeps moving.
Shield is looking to stand up but Jenkins isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Shield seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shield forces Jenkins back against the cage and clinches.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shield throws an elbow that misses.

Shield breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Shield closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walter Shield dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Shield closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jenkins to the mat! Jenkins manages to get full guard.

Jenkins has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Shield has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Shield has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jenkins clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jenkins tries to escape the position.
Jenkins is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Shield is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jenkins defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Shield controlling the positon.
Jenkins wants to get back to his feet.
Shield has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Shield somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

Shield working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Walter Shield has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jenkins wants to control his opponent's hands but Shield gets his hands free.
Jenkins is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Shield just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Jenkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jenkins staying busy and making it hard for Shield to control.
Shield throwing strikes and Jenkins squirms under the pressure, ending up mounted.
Shield wants to control the pace but Jenkins is squirming around nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jenkins is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walter Shield showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Shield shoots in and gets a takedown into Jenkins's guard.
Shield looking to sit in guard and control but Jenkins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jenkins controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Shield is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jenkins throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shield working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jenkins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jenkins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Shield is trying to keep Jenkins in close.
Shield doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Jenkins postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Jenkins wants to control from the top but Shield keeps moving.
Jenkins is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Shield tries to strike from the bottom.
Jenkins working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shield's head.
Jenkins wants to control from the top but Shield keeps moving.
Shield has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Shield tries to bench press Jenkins off him but Jenkins keeps the position.
Jenkins wants to control but Shield is keeping him busy.
Jenkins misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jenkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jenkins just content to control the position.
Shield is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Jenkins working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Rich Jenkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walter Shield is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rich Jenkins showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Shield has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
