Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiro Miyagi!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Jones!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Miyagi swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Miyagi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jones regains half guard.
Miyagi trying to mount his opponent but Jones defends it.
Miyagi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Miyagi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Miyagi is pressing down on Jones's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jones is holding on for now.
Miyagi is working hard here to advance position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Miyagi in particular looking to stall.
Miyagi works his way into side control.

Miyagi looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Jones is not content to let Miyagi control the position.

Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miyagi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Miyagi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.

Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miyagi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Jones manages to work his way to half guard, despite Miyagi's best efforts.

Miyagi is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Jones has managed to free his arm - good work.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Miyagi trying to pass the guard but Jones defending well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Miyagi trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.
Miyagi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Jones is wriggling around trying to escape.
Jones tries to lock up and control but Miyagi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Miyagi connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Miyagi looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Jones is in all sorts of trouble here.
Jones looks gassed!
Jones is squirming around, avoiding Miyagi's attempts to control the action.
Jones can't escape the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Miyagi is working for a guillotine from mount but Jones frees his head quite easily.
Miyagi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.
Miyagi with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Miyagi with shots to the head and body - Jones looks very uncomfortable down there.
Miyagi looking to control but Jones is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Miyagi working for a submission but Jones is keeping him at bay.
Jones really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Miyagi has hold of Jones's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jones manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Miyagi is going olschool here, as he tries to force Jones to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jones shrugs it off.
Jones is squirming around, avoiding Miyagi's attempts to control the action.
Miyagi is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jones is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jones tries to reverse the position but Miyagi maintains control.
Miyagi wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely.

Miyagi goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jones turns into him and now he's in Miyagi's guard.
Miyagi keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hiro Miyagi dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Jones gets caught flat footed, as Miyagi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Miyagi advances position into side control!
Miyagi is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jones is trying to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jones can't do much from the bottom here.
Jones tries to buck Miyagi off but Miyagi is having none of it.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Miyagi has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Jones is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Miyagi yanks on the arm and Jones is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Miyagi.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hiro Miyagi!
