Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Tanagul (ranked 8614 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ghost Dog (ranked 6388 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Tanagul has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joe Tanagul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ghost Dog!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Santiago Holmes and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dog tries to keep at a distance but Tanagul has taken the fight into the clinch.

Tanagul gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Dog regains guard.

Dog has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Tanagul is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Dog tries to throw a body punch but Tanagul avoids it by throwing Dog back against the cage.

Tanagul breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dog goes for a double leg but Tanagul avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tanagul continues to drive forward.
Tanagul misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dog.
Dog is looking for the big counter here.
Tanagul lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dog tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tanagul defends well and Dog ends up having to push Tanagul into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Dog tries to clinch up
enabling Tanagul to counter with a crisp jab.

Dog looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tanagul is fending him off so far but Dog persists. Nope, Tanagul circles away and we're back to standing.
Joe Tanagul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ghost Dog.
Dog shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Tanagul counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Dog fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Tanagul has Dog up against the cage in a clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Tanagul gets control of Dog's arms and successfully pulls guard. Tanagul will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dog throws a big elbow that misses.

Dog is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Tanagul tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dog trying to control the position from guard on top but Tanagul is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dog in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Tanagul is working an open guard so Dog takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dog shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Tanagul counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Tanagul closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Tanagul's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tanagul darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Dog makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Tanagul throws a right hand that Dog ducks under and follows up with a left that Dog also avoids with ease.
Dog steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Tanagul is breathing heavily.

Tanagul shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dog is trying to defend but Tanagul finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Dog makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dog has a takedown stuffed.
A slow jab from Tanagul misses its intended target.

Dog closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Tanagul to the mat! Tanagul manages to get full guard.
Dog postures up in Tanagul's guard and throws a big left but Tanagul blocks it.
Dog sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Tanagul avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Tanagul will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Tanagul gets a clinch.
Dog drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tanagul prevents a takedown attempt there.
Joe Tanagul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ghost Dog.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tanagul manages to break the clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Tanagul. Those never looked like landing.
Dog shoots in looking for a takedown. Tanagul tries to sprawl out of it but Dog keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tanagul manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Tanagul throws a sloppy head kick and Dog moves out of range easily.

Tanagul closes the distance and clinches.

Tanagul gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Dog kicks Tanagul off and gets back to his feet.
Tanagul cracks the inside of Dog's front leg.

Tanagul drives through and clinches with Dog against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tanagul is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Dog is defending well for now.
Dog prevents Tanagul from breaking the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dog jumps guard.
Dog wants to sweep but no luck.
Ghost Dog has got the better of the ground game so far.

Dog pushes Tanagul off and gets back to his feet.
A swing and a miss from Tanagul.
Dog tries for a takedown but Tanagul sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tanagul swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Joe Tanagul is winning the standup battle so far.
Tanagul misses with a combination
and Dog counters with a series of strikes. Tanagul will be more careful next time no doubt.
Dog shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tanagul as he avoids it easily.
As Dog looks to move away, Tanagul throws a big counter combo but Dog just gets out of the way.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Tanagul enables Dog to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Tanagul manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Tanagul trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Tanagul knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dog on the ground.

Dog drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dog jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Tanagul is looking to stand up but Dog isn't so interested in that idea.
Dog working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Dog is looking to work some ground and pound but Tanagul has wrist control.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dog accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tanagul can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dog controls the pace.
Dog trying to control the position from guard on top but Tanagul is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Dog drops back looking for a leg! Tanagul is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tanagul manages to kick Dog off! Dog jumps back into Tanagul's guard.
Dog wants to control from the top but Tanagul keeps moving.
Tanagul utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dog is pushing down on Tanagul's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tanagul is fighting to maintain full guard but Dog has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ghost Dog showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Dog fails with the takedown.
An attempted straight right counter from Tanagul misses the target.
Tanagul stuffs the takedown attempt from Dog. Dog gets slowly back to his feet.
Tanagul appears to be looking for a big counter.
Dog tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tanagul swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dog shoots in and drives through. Tanagul sprawls well.

Tanagul changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dog looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Dog bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Dog shoots for a takedown but Tanagul saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

A thudding body kick lands there by Dog!

Tanagul gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Dog has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Tanagul is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Tanagul is trying to break the clinch but Dog has him pressed against the cage.

Dog pulls Tanagul into guard.
Dog is pulling down on Tanagul's head to control his posture.
Dog has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Dog has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Tanagul has passed into side control.

Tanagul stands up and beckons Dog to his feet.

Dog tries to sprawl but Tanagul drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Dog has one foot on Tanagul's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dog doesn't manage to clinch there - Tanagul circles away.
Dog will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Dog shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tanagul's guard.
Dog slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Dog is looking to take a break and control but Tanagul is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tanagul is trying to escape the position but Dog is controlling the position.
Dog works to advance to full mount. Tanagul defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Dog quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Dog but it's paid off an Tanagul is forced to tap! Nice work by Dog.
