PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Young (ranked 6276 p4p, 0 weight class) and Owen King (ranked 9468 p4p, 0 weight class). Owen King is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordan Young!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Owen King!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King tries to clinch but Young is having none of it.
Young stuffs the takedown.

Young bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Young decides to stand back up. Young steps back and let's King get back to his feet.

Young shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. King manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
King wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Young manages to pass to side control.

Young throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

King wants to improve his position but Young is controlling well.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Young connects with a nice short shot to King's temple.

Young stands up out of the half guard.

Young shoots in and gets a takedown into King's guard.
Young is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
King lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Young works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Young avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
King has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

King drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Young dives on top into guard.

Young knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for King on the ground.

Young stands up and waves to King to follow him.

King shoots in looking for a takedown. Young tries to sprawl out of it but King keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Young manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Young counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Young darts in and clinches King up against the cage.

King pulls guard effortlessly.
Young not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Young throws a big right hand that misses.
Young tries to stand but King is controlling from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Young controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Young shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in King's guard.

King is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Young is aware though and is defending well.

Young stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Young gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Young gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Young escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

King tries for a takedown. No joy.
Jordan Young has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Owen King.
Young is pushing King up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Young is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Young is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that King can do to turn this around?

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


King shoots in but Young avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Young goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Young scores with a body shot.
A nice leg kick lands there from Young.

Young closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Young advances to full mount.

Young stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Young stalls.

Young has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but King regains guard immediately.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
King controlling the position.

King isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Young stacks King on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Young!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
King tries to buck Young off but Young is having none of it.

Young decides to stand back up. Young steps back and let's King get back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from King enables Young to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. King manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
King controls Young momentarily but Young frees himself.
King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Young wants to stand and escape but instead King has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

King is pushing down on Young's leg trying to pass to half guard. Young is fighting to maintain full guard but King has managed to sneak the leg through.
King is trying to control the action in half guard but Young is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

King wants to work for an arm triangle but Young is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Young is staying active underneath King, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

King is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

King has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Young defend it? King steps over the head and cranks it - Young is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for King!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Owen King!
An out of breath Owen King thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
