The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slutskaya tries a head kick but it misses.
Jab from Giles.
Giles connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

It looks like Ivan Slutskaya has been cut.
Giles misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Slutskaya.
Slutskaya tries to clinch up but Giles circles away and keeps his distance.
Slutskaya shoots in for a takedown but Giles shows good takedown defense.
Slutskaya tries to close the distance and clinch but Giles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Slutskaya avoids a punch combination nicely.
Giles just misses with a punch to the body.
Giles fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Slutskaya manages to avoid it.
Nice takedown defense from Giles. No joy for Slutskaya on that attempt.
Slutskaya shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Giles pinned against the cage. Giles gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Slutskaya. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Giles stuffs the takedown attempt from Slutskaya. Slutskaya gets slowly back to his feet.
Slutskaya closes the distance and clinches up with Giles, looking for a takedown. Slutskaya pushes Giles against the cage but Giles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Giles. No joy for Slutskaya on that attempt.
Slutskaya is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Slutskaya shoots for a takedown but Giles saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ivan Slutskaya seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Giles keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Slutskaya walks straight into a right hand from Giles - that's dropped him! Giles jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Slutskaya from any more punishment! Slutskaya complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
