PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Francisco Salgado (ranked 1016 p4p, 108 weight class) and Matt Black (ranked 1269 p4p, 136 weight class). Black has chosen Manu Chao - Mr. Bobby as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. On his way into the cage it seems that Francisco Salgado has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Francisco Salgado seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice straight punches there by Black. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Black.
Black comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Salgado looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Salgado misses the jab.
Black throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Salgado stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Salgado moves into the clinch.
Black lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Salgado backwards.
Black tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Salgado's elbow.
Black scores with a shoulder strike.

Black breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Black misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A quick step to the side and Salgado tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Black misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Black looking to score a takedown here. Salgado is defending well but Black drives through and ends up in Salgado's guard.
Black loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Black tries to free his leg and advance position but Salgado is retaining full guard.
Salgado keeping moving, preventing Black from controlling successfully.
Black missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Salgado has momentary wrist control but Black slips an elbow through the middle.
Salgado looking to hit a scissor sweep but Black is one step ahead there.
Black trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Salgado wants to stand up but Black is controlling him.
Salgado utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Black postures up and lands a big shot to Salgado's brow.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Black accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Black throws an elbow that misses. Salgado uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Black's guard. Nice move by Salgado!

Black has a closed guard, preventing Salgado from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Salgado seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Salgado looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Black has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Salgado can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Black is working an open guard so Salgado takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Black blocks a jab.
Black misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Salgado misses with a hook.
Salgado stalks Black and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Black's face. Black staggers backwards, shaken.

It looks like Matt Black has been cut.
Salgado doesn't manage to clinch there - Black circles away.
Black appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salgado with a jab.
Salgado tries to close the distance and clinch but Black swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A little jabbing left from Black on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Salgado rushes Black and presses him up against the cage.

Salgado breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Salgado moves into range and clinches up with Black.
Black tries to throw a body punch but Salgado avoids it by throwing Black back against the cage.
Black lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Salgado backwards.
Salgado throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Blacks head.

Black escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Salgado takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Salgado looks to land a combination. Black sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Salgado moves into range and clinches up with Black.
Black lands with a left to the head.
Black tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Salgado lands a shoulder strike.
Black goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Salgado has had enough of the clinch but Black keeps him there for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salgado lands a damaging elbow.

That has opened up Matt Black's cut even more.

Salgado breaks from the clinch.
Black throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Salgado throws a right hand that Black ducks under and follows up with a left that Black also avoids with ease.
Some bone on bone action there as Black checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Salgado moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Black throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Salgado tumbling to the canvas!

Salgado is rocked!
Black has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Black arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Salgado's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Matt Black!
An out of breath Matt Black thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
