PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andre Dirrel (ranked 6154 p4p, 0 weight class) and Power Max (ranked 7523 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andre Dirrel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Power Max!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Max shoots in for a takedown but Dirrel shows good takedown defense.
Dirrel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Max swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dirrel shoots in for a double leg but Max sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Max shoots in and gets a takedown into Dirrel's guard.
Max is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Max stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dirrel swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dirrel looking for a sweep. Not yet Dirrel, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Max slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dirrel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Max is one step ahead there.

Max wants to stand but Dirrel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dirrel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Max tries to avoid it but Dirrel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Max to the ground. Max escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A jab from Dirrel does it's job there.
Max just misses with a punch to the body.
Dirrel attempts a counter takedown but Max avoids it well and moves away.
Max misses with an attempted mid kick.

Dirrel goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Dirrel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Max defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andre Dirrel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dirrel shoots for a takedown but Max saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Max darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Dirrel keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Dirrel lands with a few short shots to the body.

Max is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Dirrel is trying to get back to full guard.
We've been informed that Max has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Dirrel is looking to get back to is feet but Max passes into side control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Max remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Max has an Americana. Dirrel didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Max is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Max hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
