Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aslak Lappalainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter comes to the cage accompanied by Dance Monkey -Sage Francis. Aslak Lappalainen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aslak Lappalainen!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left lands for Lappalainen.
Lappalainen keeps the fight on the outside.
Hunter keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Matt Hunter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunter misses with a takedown attempt

and Lappalainen counters with a single leg into guard. Hunter didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hunter gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Hunter is trying to maintain the position but Lappalainen is very close to passing his half guard.
Hunter wants to get back to full guard.
Hunter trying to hold on to Lappalainen's head to control him but Lappalainen postures up.
Lappalainen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hunter knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hunter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Hunter is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Hunter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Hunter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Lappalainen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hunter's guard.
Lappalainen won't allow Hunter to get back to his feet.

Hunter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lappalainen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lappalainen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lappalainen decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Lappalainen throws a hook but Hunter blocks it.

Lappalainen seems to be working for a kimura but Hunter defends the submission attempt.

Lappalainen works his foot free and advances to mount.
Lappalainen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hunter is looking to escape.
Lappalainen prevents Hunter from getting the reversal.
Hunter is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lappalainen trying to control the action but Hunter is working from the bottom.
Lappalainen tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Hunter can't do much from the bottom here.
Aslak Lappalainen has got the better of the ground game so far.

Lappalainen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lappalainen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hunter is trying to control Lappalainen's posture but Lappalainen avoids it.

Hunter is looking to regain half guard here but Lappalainen keeps moving and retains side control.

Lappalainen has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Hunter connects with a high kick.

Hunter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Lappalainen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hunter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hunter works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Hunter has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Matt Hunter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Hunter counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lappalainen's guard now.

Lappalainen wants to sweep but no luck.

Lappalainen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hunter is squirming around, avoiding Lappalainen's attempts to control the action.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hunter moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lappalainen is on top in guard.

Lappalainen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hunter keeps working.

Hunter tries to kick Lappalainen off but Lappalainen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Aslak Lappalainen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lappalainen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
