PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jumping Rivers (ranked 9246 p4p, 257 weight class) and Vinnie Vortex (ranked 6093 p4p, 206 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jumping Rivers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vinnie Vortex!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers avoids the head kick by Vortex.

Vortex has closed the distance and engaged Rivers in a clinch.

Rivers has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Vortex uses from the top position.
Rivers wants to stand but Vortex is controlling the position.
Rivers has his hands on Vortex's head, controlling the position.
Vortex really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rivers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vortex throws a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rivers is trying to control the position but Vortex postures up.
Rivers on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rivers tries to get out of the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vortex accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Vortex.

Vortex is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Rivers is really struggling to control Vortex but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Vortex postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rivers is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Vortex, into his guard.

Rivers might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Vortex wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vortex looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rivers puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Vortex should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rivers connects with a nice short shot to Vortex's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rivers wants to take a breather but Vortex is having none of it.
Vortex is looking to improve his position.

Rivers is working for a submission of some sort.
Vortex is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vortex tries to roll over but Rivers keeps him under control.
Vortex holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Rivers is pressing down on Vortex's thigh, looking to free his foot. Vortex is holding on for now.
Rivers is breathing heavily.
Vortex pushes Rivers off but Rivers dives into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Vortex throws a few strikes from the bottom but Rivers takes advantage and mounts!
Vortex is wriggling around trying to escape.
Vortex wants to control but Rivers is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jumping Rivers dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Vortex drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rivers wants to control but Vortex postures up.
Rivers is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Vortex sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rivers defending well though.
Rivers is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Vortex's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Vortex's back!
Vortex's corner are yelling at him, telling him to just focus on controlling Rivers's hands.

Vortex looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rivers punishes Vortex with strikes from the back mount.
Vortex trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
I really don't envy Vortex right now.
Vortex is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Rivers is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Vortex up.
Vortex rolls, trying to escape but Rivers keeps control of the position.
Rivers tries to get the hooks in deep but Vortex pushed the leg off.

Rivers tightening his grip on Vortex, looking for the choke.
Vortex wants to control his opponent's hands but Rivers gets his hands free.
Vortex tries to break free.
Vortex is trying to stand back up.
Vortex needs to remain patient if he's going to get out of this sticky situation.
Jumping Rivers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vortex rolls, trying to escape but Rivers keeps control of the position.
Rivers is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vortex can do to turn this around?
Vortex controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad spot.
Vortex tries to escape the position.
Rivers is not going to allow Vortex to sit and survive in this position.

Vortex prevents Rivers from getting a body triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jumping Rivers dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Vortex moves into range and clinches up with Rivers.
Rivers tries to pull guard but Vortex forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Rivers is trying to pull guard but Vortex has him pressed against the cage.
Vortex makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Rivers manages to break the clinch.
Vortex dodges the punch combination from Rivers.

Vortex drives through and clinches with Rivers against the cage.

Vortex changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rivers fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jumping Rivers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vortex slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Vortex's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Vortex postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Vortex lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Rivers has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vortex can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Vortex's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Vortex darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Vortex tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rivers knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Vortex tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rivers controls his leg.
Vortex is controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vortex is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Vortex missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Vortex stalling.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rivers gets caught flat footed, as Vortex shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rivers looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Vortex stays in close to Rivers's body and controls the position.
Vortex pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rivers is keeping the position for now.

Vortex engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vinnie Vortex comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rivers has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
