Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rio Cooper (ranked 6078 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Wright (ranked 24280 p4p, 0 weight class). Wright has chosen Warped Mind as his entrance music. Alex Wright is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rio Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Wright!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wright goes for a double leg but Cooper avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cooper continues to drive forward.
Cooper tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Wright is able to avoid easily.
Wright throws a series of punches but Cooper avoids them all with ease.
Wright throws a head kick that misses

and Cooper decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Wright's guard.
Cooper engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wright looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Wright keeping full guard, as Cooper tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooper wants to stand but Wright has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cooper drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Wright manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cooper has Wright in his guard.

Cooper is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Wright trying to control but Cooper is working from the bottom.
Cooper tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wright gets to his feet - Cooper follows without any prompting.
Wright lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Cooper misses with a low kick.
Wright blocks a low kick nicely.

Cooper looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Wright!
Wright can't do much from the bottom here.
Cooper in side control, throwing shots but Wright defends.
Wright is looking to reverse the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Cooper tries to score with some ground and pound. Wright controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Wright regains half guard there - taking advantage of Cooper's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Well, if Cooper is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Wright wants to control but Cooper passes into side.
Cooper tries to move into full mount but can't pass Wright's legs.
Wright is not content to let Cooper control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A control attempt from Wright but he's now mounted!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rio Cooper will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Cooper drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cooper wants to get up but he can't break Wright's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wright controls Cooper momentarily but Cooper frees himself.
Cooper would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Cooper is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cooper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cooper closes the distance and clinches.

Cooper has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Wright regains guard immediately.

Wright wants to improve his position but Cooper is controlling well.
Wright is positioning himself well to prevent Cooper advancing to mount.

Cooper is looking to take a break and control but Wright is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cooper is keen to just control but Wright is a slippery customer.
Cooper perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Cooper working over Wright with some ground and pound. Wright looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Cooper landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Cooper wants to take a breather but Wright is having none of it.
Rio Cooper overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cooper stalling away here and it's allowed Wright to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Cooper is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wright can do to turn this around?
Cooper slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Cooper postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wright is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cooper, into his guard.

Cooper wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Wright forces his way into half guard.
Wright prevents Cooper from improving his position.
Cooper trying to hold on to Wright's head to control him but Wright postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Wright comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cooper has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

During a confident post fight interview, Rio Cooper thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
In defeat, Alex Wright stepped up to the mic, saying 'When I sign a contract, I really want to give 180%. And if I can't give that, it's just not fair to the promotion and it's not fair to the fans and it's not fair to myself'.
