The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mars motions for Kernes to come forward. Mars throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Mars shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kernes as he avoids it easily.
Kernes connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mars momentarily.

Mars takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mars misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Mars jumps guard but Kernes stands there with Mars around his waist. Mars gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mars wants to get back to striking at distance but Kernes won't allow it.

A nice glancing elbow lands by Kernes.
Mars jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kernes walks away with a smile on his face. Mars gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mars looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Mars. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Kernes gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kernes lands with a right to the head.
Kernes looking to throw knees to the head but Mars is blocking nicely.
Mars goes for a takedown attempt but Kernes pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kernes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mars shoots for a double leg takedown but Kernes sprawls well. He's pushed Mars's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No joy there for Mars, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mars has Kernes pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kernes manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Mars misses with a takedown attempt - Kernes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Mars counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kernes is trying to control the action in half guard but Mars is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Jay Kernes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mars is looking to escape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Mars tries to stall but Kernes uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jay Kernes.
I think Kernes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
