PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Elijah Jarvis (ranked 8658 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe James (ranked 8036 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen Last Resort as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Joe James will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Elijah Jarvis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joe James!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James gets in close and instigates a clinch.

James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
James throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
James tries a head kick but it misses.
Jarvis swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
James shoots in but no luck this time.
Jarvis drops down looking for a counter takedown but James sprawls and moves away.
Jarvis misses with an uppercut.
No luck with that takedown attempt from James.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A head kick by James misses
and Jarvis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

James moves into range and clinches up with Jarvis.

Jarvis pulls guard successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jarvis controlling James's posture.
Jarvis lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jarvis postures up and lands a big shot to James's brow.
Jarvis wants to stand and escape but instead James has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Jarvis wants to get back to his feet but James is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James postures up.
Jarvis wants to stand up but James is controlling him.
Jarvis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

James has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jarvis is proving hard to escape from.
Jarvis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst James is controlling him.

Jarvis has control of James's left arm, preventing James from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

James throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jarvis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. James is in Jarvis's guard.

James throws a big elbow that misses.
James wants to stand but Jarvis has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
James looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Jarvis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jarvis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Joe James will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



James drops Jarvis with a beautiful combination! Jarvis stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - James is looking for the KO!


It looks like Elijah Jarvis has been cut.
James shoots in for a takedown but Jarvis shows good takedown defense.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jarvis pulls James in close to prevent any damage.
James stops Jarvis from standing up.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jarvis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jarvis pulls James in to control the position.

Jarvis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

James wants to get back to full guard.
Jarvis seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.
James is refusing to be controlled, as Jarvis sits in half guard.

Jarvis seems to be working for a kimura but James defends the submission attempt.
James wants to get back to full guard but Jarvis has mounted him!

Jarvis content just to control the position here.
Jarvis looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
James is looking to improve his position but Jarvis isn't that keen on the idea.
James tries to hold on but Jarvis pushes him away.
Jarvis looking to control but James is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

James on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Jarvis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. James doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jarvis.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James makes his way to full guard. A much better position for James.
Elijah Jarvis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jarvis content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

James lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Jarvis is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
James is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Joe James will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Elijah Jarvis's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Elijah Jarvis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe James.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jarvis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts James as he jumps to the side.

Jarvis swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
James misses with a takedown
and Jarvis counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

James follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
James wants to clinch.
Joe James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jarvis looks to score with a jab to the body but James is just out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jarvis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
James feints the counter takedown.
James is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jarvis sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by James or perhaps it was just good defense by Jarvis, which made it look bad.
Jarvis misses with a head kick.
Jarvis lands a jab to James's midsection.

Jarvis connects with a body shot that sends James's belly button to the back.
Jarvis throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
James tries to counter with a clinch but Jarvis shakes him off and moves away.

Jarvis moves into the clinch.

Jarvis gets control of James's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jarvis will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Jarvis is looking to stand up but James isn't so interested in that idea.
Jarvis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Jarvis tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jarvis keeping full guard, as James tries to pass.
Jarvis is pulling down on James's head. It's preventing any offense from James, at least for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Joe James is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

James shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than James was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Elijah Jarvis showed his dominance in that final round.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
