Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Ubereem (ranked 2519 p4p, 333 weight class) and Don Joe (ranked 3308 p4p, 414 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Joe's choice of entrance music: Johnny Cash - Big Iron. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Ubereem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Don Joe!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joe darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Joe seems content to control.
Ubereem is refusing to be controlled, as Joe sits in half guard.

Ubereem looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Joe looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Joe throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ubereem is trying to get back to full guard.

Ubereem looking for submissions off his back.
Ubereem has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Joe is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Joe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ubereem does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Joe working over Ubereem with some ground and pound. Ubereem looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Joe is looking to take a break and control but Ubereem is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Joe is working for a kimura but Ubereem is defending it quite comfortably.
Ubereem trying to control but Joe postures up.
Joe is trying to control. Ubereem wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Ubereem is pressing down on Joe's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Ubereem has his foot on Joe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Joe works his way back into a safe position though.

Joe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ubereem has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Joe has managed to get both his arms back between Ubereem's legs - danger averted.
Ubereem bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Joe's guard.

Joe tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Joe is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ubereem trying to control the position from guard on top but Joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ubereem drops back looking for a leg! Joe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Joe manages to kick Ubereem off! Ubereem jumps back into Joe's guard.
Ubereem is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ubereem is pushing down on Joe's leg trying to pass to half guard. Joe is fighting to maintain full guard but Ubereem has managed to sneak the leg through.

Ubereem is working for a submission of some sort.
Ubereem prevents Joe from improving his position.
Ubereem looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Ubereem is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Joe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ubereem.

Ubereem is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Joe tries to get to full guard but Ubereem has control of the leg.
Joe regains full guard. Nicely done.
Ubereem trying to control the position from guard on top but Joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ubereem thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ubereem advances position into side control!
Joe manages to get back to half guard.
Joe is looking to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Joe can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ubereem is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ubereem trying to control from half guard but Joe is working away.
Joe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ubereem wants to control but Joe is keeping him busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Joe is looking to improve his position.

Ubereem wants to work for an arm triangle but Joe is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jon Ubereem will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Joe throws a right hand that Ubereem ducks under and follows up with a left that Ubereem also avoids with ease.
Ubereem has his takedown stuffed
and Joe counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Joe moves away from the strike by Ubereem.
Joe lands with a hook. Ubereem tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Joe jabs Ubereem to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Ubereem displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Joe throws out the jab.
Ubereem seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Joe punishes Ubereem's body with a nice straight punch.
Ubereem throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Joe.
Joe misses the shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A jab from Joe finds it's way through Ubereem's defenses.
A head kick misses from Joe.
Ubereem misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Joe.
Joe looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Joe lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ubereem at a distance.

Ubereem tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Joe swivels and escapes.

Joe closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ubereem quickly recovers to half guard.
Ubereem is trying to get back to full guard.
Ubereem gets full guard.
Ubereem keeping full guard, as Joe tries to pass.
Joe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Joe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Joe. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Joe works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Joe passes the guard and advances to mount!
Ubereem sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Ubereem trying to control here.
Ubereem won't allow Joe to pass to mount.

Joe sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ubereem defending well though.
Joe passes to side control.
Joe is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Ubereem is trying to improve his position.
Ubereem defending against the ground and pound.
Ubereem tries to buck Joe off but Joe is having none of it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ubereem is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Joe's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Ubereem keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Ubereem is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Joe pulls his head out easily.
Joe seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Ubereem is staying active underneath Joe, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ubereem slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Joe passes into half guard.
Ubereem is pressing down on Joe's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Joe controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Joe is sitting in close to Ubereem's body. Ubereem has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Joe is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Joe is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Ubereem.
