PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Henry Motts (ranked 5851 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Cohen (ranked 5843 p4p, 577 weight class). Ed Cohen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Henry Motts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ed Cohen!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Motts gets tackled into the cage by Cohen. Cohen maintains the clinch.
Motts is looking to break free of the clinch but Cohen has double underhooks.
Cohen prevents Motts from breaking the clinch.
Cohen tries to score a body lock takedown but Motts shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Motts tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cohen smiles and moves away.
Cohen dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Motts. That did some damage!
Cohen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Motts paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cohen misses with a takedown attempt - Motts sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Motts throws a chopping leg kick but Cohen manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Cohen tries to land a front kick but Motts steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Cohen has closed the distance and engaged Motts in a clinch.

Motts tries to pull guard but Cohen holds him up against the cage and eventually Motts drops back down to his feet.

Motts slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Cohen is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Motts trying to control the position from guard on top but Cohen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Motts seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Cohen controls Motts momentarily but Motts frees himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Motts accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cohen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Motts is not content to let Cohen control the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cohen decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Cohen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Motts swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Motts stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Motts wants it to stay on the feet.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Motts connects with a nice short shot to Cohen's temple.

Cohen is not content to let Motts control the position.

Motts tries to free his leg and advance position but Cohen is retaining full guard.
Cohen wants to sweep here but Motts controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Motts is fighting to break Cohen's control of his arms but Cohen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
