PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between methos lage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jenni Salonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, methos lage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jenni Salonen!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksei Zolotukhin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salonen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but lage swivels and escapes.

lage pushes Salonen up against the cage in a clinch.

lage breaks the clinch.
Salonen closes the distance and clinches up with lage, looking for a takedown. Salonen pushes lage against the cage but lage circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Salonen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but lage swivels and escapes.
methos lage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jenni Salonen.
Salonen takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Salonen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

lage has managed to clinch.
Salonen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but lage gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Salonen looks gassed!
lage scores with a shot to the side of Salonen's head.

lage pulls Salonen into guard.
Salonen is looking to work some ground and pound but lage has wrist control.
lage controls Salonen momentarily but Salonen frees himself.

Salonen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
lage trying to keep a closed guard but Salonen is proving a slippery customer.
Salonen is looking to work some ground and pound but lage has wrist control.
lage working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Salonen.

lage keeping full guard, as Salonen tries to pass.

lage has his foot on Salonen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Salonen works his way back into a safe position though.
Salonen throwing strikes but missing.
lage bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Salonen's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

lage drops back looking for a leg! Salonen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Salonen manages to kick lage off! lage jumps back into Salonen's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Salonen is on top in guard.

lage pushes Salonen off and scrambles back to his feet.

Salonen clinches.
lage lands a nice elbow.

Salonen lands a takedown into guard.
lage wants to sweep here but Salonen controlling him for the moment.

lage controls Salonen momentarily but Salonen frees himself.
lage avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Salonen with a nice head shot there.
Salonen makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Salonen throws a big right hand that misses.

Salonen is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but lage has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Salonen is looking to defend but lage has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Salonen! lage pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Salonen taps out and this one is all over!
