PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Romeu Sokoudju (ranked 3934 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dalcha Lungiambula (ranked 7486 p4p, 0 weight class). Dalcha Lungiambula told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Romeu Sokoudju!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sokoudju gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Lungiambula is trying to drag Sokoudju to the mat but Sokoudju just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Sokoudju ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sokoudju no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Sokoudju working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lungiambula doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lungiambula manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sokoudju wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lungiambula keeps working.
Lungiambula is looking to regain half guard here but Sokoudju keeps moving and retains side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lungiambula shoots in looking for a takedown but Sokoudju manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lungiambula's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sokoudju lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lungiambula circles away quickly and effectively.

Sokoudju looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Lungiambula lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Sokoudju has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Sokoudju and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Sokoudju looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lungiambula is fending him off so far but Sokoudju persists. Nope, Lungiambula circles away and we're back to standing.

Romeu Sokoudju overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sokoudju is on top in guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Romeu Sokoudju.
Well Sokoudju has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
