Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sammie Elliott (ranked 8739 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mir (ranked 5693 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sammie Elliott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Elliott darts in and clinches Mir up against the cage.

Mir is fighting off a takedown attempt but Elliott is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mir to the mat. Mir regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mir wants to stand up but Elliott is controlling him.

Elliott stands and steps away. Mir gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Elliott drives through and clinches with Mir against the cage.

Elliott breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Elliott changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mir looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mir bucks up and tries to throw Elliott off but instead Elliott has got his back!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Elliott is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

Mir is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Elliott scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Elliott has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Elliott has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mir wants to get back to his feet but Elliott is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Elliott throws a big right hand that misses.
Mir keeping moving, preventing Elliott from controlling successfully.

Mir manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Elliott drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Elliott gets to his feet. Mir looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Elliott has Mir up against the cage in a clinch.

Elliott jumps into guard, dragging Mir to the mat.
Elliott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mir has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Elliott is proving hard to escape from.

Elliott is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Mir wanted to stand there but Elliott had control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Elliott instigates a clinch.

Elliott's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Elliott gets a double leg takedown into Mir's guard.
Elliott looking to sit in guard and control but Mir gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mir wants to stand but Elliott is controlling his posture from full guard.
Elliott is trying to hold Mir in close to prevent damage but Mir has managed to pass into half guard.

Mir wants to stand up but Elliott has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Mir postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Elliott to stand up.

Elliott fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mir to the ground. Elliott is now in Mir's guard.
Mir is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Elliott will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mir can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Elliott controls the pace.
Elliott throws an elbow that misses. Mir uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Elliott's guard. Nice move by Mir!

Mir tries to stand but Elliott is controlling from the bottom.
Sammie Elliott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Elliott has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mir has passed into side control.
Mir tries to stand but Elliott is controlling his head.

Elliott is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Elliott sneaks back into half guard.
We've been informed that Mir has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Mir stands up from half guard.

Mir gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Elliott to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mir has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Elliott has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Elliott's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Elliott closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mir bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Elliott creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mir sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Mir is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Elliott asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Elliott stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Elliott taking a break here but Mir is having none of it and regains half guard.
Elliott looks to land a strike but Mir avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Mir wants to get back to his feet but Elliott is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Elliott stands up from Mir's guard - Elliott perhaps looking for a knockout.

Elliott closes the distance and clinches.

Elliott managing to block the knees to the body from Mir.

Elliott has Mir pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Elliott pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mir tumbling to the mat - Elliott dives into Mir's guard.

Mir uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Frank Mir is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Elliott closes the distance and pushes Mir back into the cage.
Mir looking to throw knees to the head but Elliott is blocking nicely.

Elliott breaks the clinch.

Elliott feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mir is looking to stand up but Elliott isn't so interested in that idea.
Elliott throws an elbow that misses. Mir uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Elliott's guard. Nice move by Mir!


And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Frank Mir.
I think Mir has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
