PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stan Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage's entrance music is Staic X - Lunatic. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stan Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Phil Davis!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Davis moves away from the strike by Savage.
Savage throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Savage throws a shot from downtown. Davis moves away and avoids it.
Davis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Davis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Davis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Savage's guard.
Savage wants to sweep but no luck.
Savage doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Savage tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Davis stands up from Savage's guard - Davis perhaps looking for a knockout.
Savage misses with a hook.
A big left from Savage misses.
Savage swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Savage throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Davis keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Davis doesn't manage to clinch there - Savage circles away.

Davis moves into the clinch.
Davis's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Savage lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Savage lands a right hand.
Savage digs a right hand underneath Davis's ribcage. Davis let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Savage prevents Davis from breaking the clinch.

Davis pulls guard effortlessly.
Savage might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Savage sitting in guard here, content to control.
Davis looking for a sweep. Not yet Davis, not yet.
Savage postures up and lands a big shot to Davis's brow.
Davis trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Savage wanted to stand there but Davis had control of the position.
Davis pulls Savage in close to prevent any damage.
Savage preventing the sweep.
Savage knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Davis on the ground.
Savage slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Savage working the ground and pound from side control.
Davis pushes Savage away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Savage gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Savage wants to lay and pray for a moment but Davis keeps working.
Savage is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Davis's shoulder. That is not cool.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Savage is putting a hurting on Davis here, landing some big shots from side control.
Davis is trying to improve his position.
Savage lands a few punches from side control.
Davis is not content to let Savage control the position.
Davis struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Savage trying to control the position but Davis is working away.
Davis pushes Savage away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Savage gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Savage is trying to get an arm triangle but Davis is defending well.
Sloppy strikes there by Savage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Savage throws a shot from downtown. Davis moves away and avoids it.
Stan Savage is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Savage throws a hook to the side of Davis's head but Davis sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Stan Savage will probably get the nod.
That's time! Savage's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Stan Savage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice sprawl there from Savage as Davis shoots in.
Savage throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
No joy there for Savage, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Savage scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Savage throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Davis.
Savage is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Savage's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Savage fails to land with a series of punches.
A punch combination from Savage misses.
Davis ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Savage scores with a punch to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Savage, as that shot connected.
Davis seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Savage shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Davis is backing up but Savage catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Davis covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Savage Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stan Savage!
