CEC 584 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Linus Akerman (ranked 75 p4p, 11 weight class) and Zane Mason (ranked 403 p4p, 56 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akerman throws a leg kick but Mason moved away.
Mason jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Mason doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Mason's jab looks to have found its range, popping Akerman under the eye.
Akerman scores with the left hand. Mason knows he should have avoided that one.

Mason tries to work over Akerman's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Akerman ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Akerman no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mason seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Akerman wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Akerman wants to sweep here but Mason controlling him for the moment.
Akerman is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Akerman works his foot free and advances to mount.
Mason tries to reverse the position but Akerman maintains control.

Akerman can't control as he wanted to and Mason manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Mason is controlling Akerman's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Linus Akerman dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Akerman, as that shot connected.

Zane Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A little feinted left hand from Akerman on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Mason's jab looks to have found its range, popping Akerman under the eye.

Mason paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Mason uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Akerman.

Mason might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Zane Mason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mason lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Linus Akerman.
I think Akerman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
