PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Giovanni Chase (ranked 8054 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emanuel Chapman (ranked 6070 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Giovanni Chase has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Giovanni Chase seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Emanuel Chapman!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chapman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chapman lands in his opponent's guard.
Chase really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chase wants to stand back up but Chapman manages to pass into side control.
Chase is looking for a sweep.
Chapman works to advance to full mount. Chase defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Chase working to try and regain half guard.

Chapman looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chase keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Chapman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chase is looking to escape.

Chapman get's back to his feet.

Chase tries to keep at a distance but Chapman has taken the fight into the clinch.
Chase is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Chapman to keep the fight standing.
Chase is working for takedown but Chapman is calmly controlling the position for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Chapman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Chapman seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Chase with a flurry of punches that miss.

Emanuel Chapman has got the better of the ground game so far.

Chapman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chase's guard.

Chase is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chase lands a couple of elbows.

Chase gets to his feet - Chapman follows without any prompting.
Chase wants to clinch up but Chapman keeps it at a distance.

Chase dives in for a single leg takedown but Chapman sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Emanuel Chapman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chapman changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Chase looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Chase tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Emanuel Chapman will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Chapman tries to close the distance and clinch but Chase swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Chapman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Chapman drops back looking for a leg! Chase is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chase manages to kick Chapman off! Chapman jumps back into Chase's guard.
Chapman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Chapman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Chapman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Chase's guard.
Chase tries to kick Chapman off but Chapman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Chapman is trying to control the action in half guard but Chase is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Chapman is thwarting Chase's attempts to control the position.
Chase slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Chapman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Chase is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Chase has one foot on Chapman's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Chapman wants to control for a moment but Chase uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Chapman stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Chapman clinches up with Chase and pushes him back against the cage.
Chapman's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Chapman lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chase is trying to pull guard but Chapman has him pressed against the cage.
Chase jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chapman walks away with a smile on his face. Chase gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Giovanni Chase has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Emanuel Chapman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Chapman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Chase has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Chapman is on him like a limpet, forcing Chase back against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Giovanni Chase showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Chapman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
