PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eli Jones (ranked 4524 p4p, 437 weight class) and Mike Killsonsight (ranked 5417 p4p, 499 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mike Killsonsight was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eli Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Killsonsight!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Killsonsight shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jones's guard.
Jones looking to control.

Killsonsight gets to his feet. Jones looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Jones throws a body punch but Killsonsight moves out of range.
Jones looks to land a combination but Killsonsight avoids it well.

Killsonsight closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Jones looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Killsonsight not doing much here.
Killsonsight blocks the strikes from Jones.

Jones pushes Killsonsight off and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Killsonsight moves into range and clinches up with Jones.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Killsonsight closes the distance and clinches.

Killsonsight decides to pull guard.

Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Killsonsight has wrist control.
Jones throws a big elbow that misses.

Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jones throws a right hand that Killsonsight ducks under and follows up with a left that Killsonsight also avoids with ease.
Killsonsight tries to counter with a clinch but Jones shakes him off and moves away.
Sloppy strikes from Jones. Those never looked like landing.

and Killsonsight counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Jones has his feet on Killsonsight's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jones is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Killsonsight pulls his head out easily.

Jones looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Killsonsight decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Killsonsight uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Killsonsight.

Killsonsight closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Killsonsight is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Killsonsight is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Jones is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Killsonsight's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Killsonsight's back!
Killsonsight trying to control the action but Jones just sinks the hooks in.
Killsonsight is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Jones is staying active.

Killsonsight avoids the strikes from Jones.
Jones has the hooks in. Killsonsight is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Killsonsight should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Killsonsight is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Jones is persistently looking for the submission but Killsonsight is defending it well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
You can see the frustration on Killsonsight's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Killsonsight really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Killsonsight clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage.
Jones can't break the clinch.
Jones wants to break the clinch but can't.
Killsonsight wants a takedown.

Killsonsight breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jones throws a right and a left that Killsonsight avoids nicely.

Jones is trying to control Killsonsight's posture but Killsonsight avoids it.

Killsonsight working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Eli Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones tries to escape but Killsonsight is in control.

Jones throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Jones gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Killsonsight looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jones tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Killsonsight stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Killsonsight moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Killsonsight shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Let's hope that Killsonsight has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Killsonsight can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Killsonsight is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Killsonsight is working Jones over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Killsonsight stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Killsonsight defends well.

Mike Killsonsight showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

A frustrated look appears on Jones's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jones is looking to break free of the clinch but Killsonsight has double underhooks.

Jones has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Killsonsight is on him like a limpet, forcing Jones back against the cage.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones swings widly with a right hand

and Killsonsight counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Killsonsight.

Jones has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Killsonsight off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Killsonsight feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Jones manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

This has been an exciting period of action!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Killsonsight is pulling down on Jones's head. It's preventing any offense from Jones, at least for the moment.
Jones passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eli Jones.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
