PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Guti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gora Sammo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gora Sammo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Guti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gora Sammo!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guti misses with a double jab.
Guti fails with the takedown.
Guti blocks a head kick by Sammo.
Nice takedown defense from Sammo. No joy for Guti on that attempt.
Sammo throws a head kick but Guti moves out of range.

Guti gets a takedown into half guard.

Guti is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Sammo is trying to get back to full guard.
Sammo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Guti is fighting to break Sammo's control of his arms but Sammo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sammo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sammo takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Guti wants to improve his position but Sammo is controlling well.
Sammo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sammo is taking a breather. Guti says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sammo lands a nice short elbow.

Guti is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Sammo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sammo is taking a breather. Guti says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Guti on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Sammo seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Guti is staying active underneath Sammo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Well, if Sammo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Sammo is keen to just control but Guti is a slippery customer.

Sammo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Despite being in the dominant position, Gora Sammo just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sammo moves into range and clinches up with Guti.

Sammo breaks the clinch.
No luck for Guti with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Guti. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sammo stuffs the takedown.
Guti is breathing heavily.
Guti shoots in looking for a takedown. Sammo tries to sprawl out of it but Guti keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sammo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Sammo. Guti shrugs it off though.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sammo lands a nice elbow.

It looks like Dan Guti has been cut.

Sammo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Sammo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sammo is nestled in close to Guti, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Sammo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sammo lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sammo cracks Guti with a solid left hand.
Sammo stands and throws Guti's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sammo happy to just control the position for now.
Sammo cracks Guti with a big elbow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sammo is chipping away with strikes.
Sammo lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Guti down.
Sammo connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Guti some visible discomfort.

Sammo is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Guti's shoulder. That is not cool.
Oh Guti is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Guti is trying to work for a sweep but Sammo has mounted him!
Guti seems to have got his legs back now.
