The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mate throws a head kick but Barnes moves out of range.
Mate looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Barnes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Barnes kicks Mate off and gets to his feet.
Mate tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Barnes paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Mate throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barnes was covering up waiting for the punch and Mate finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Barnes has his foot on Mate's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mate works his way back into a safe position though.

Barnes seems keen to control Mate's posture.

Barnes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mate can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Barnes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mate gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mate wants to control from the top but Barnes keeps moving.

Mate tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Barnes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Barnes shoots in but no luck this time.

Mate fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Barnes sprawls well initially but Mate persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Barnes is looking to cinch up a triangle. Mate throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Barnes's body to avoid the submission. Barnes has instead reached around Mate's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Barnes arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
