PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Raddick Jenkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spoon McGinty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jenkins's entrance music is ill bill - war is my destiny. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Spoon McGinty!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jenkins tries for a takedown but McGinty sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

McGinty darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jenkins wants to sweep but McGinty has passed to side control!
Jenkins manages to get back to half guard.
McGinty is thwarting Jenkins's attempts to control the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McGinty tries for a kimura but Jenkins is defending well.

McGinty has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Spoon McGinty seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGinty lands with a nice combination. Jenkins backs away looking to recover.
A nice inside leg kick there by Jenkins. That's going to slow McGinty down.
Jenkins swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and McGinty counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McGinty.
Jenkins is breathing heavily.
McGinty jumps guard but Jenkins stands there with McGinty around his waist. McGinty gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Jenkins has had enough of the clinch but McGinty keeps him there for the moment.

Jenkins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McGinty smiles and moves away.

McGinty feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McGinty changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jenkins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

McGinty tries for a kimura but Jenkins is defending well.
Jenkins tries to bench press McGinty off him but McGinty keeps the position.

McGinty decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jenkins to his feet.

McGinty gets in close and instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jenkins takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
McGinty lands with a slapping head kick.
Jenkins works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

so McGinty counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McGinty wants to control from the top but Jenkins keeps moving.
McGinty wants to get up but he can't break Jenkins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

McGinty throws a series of strikes that have Jenkins backpedaling.

Jenkins doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

McGinty throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jenkins.

McGinty is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jenkins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McGinty.

Spoon McGinty showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

No joy there for McGinty, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jenkins closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
McGinty goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and McGinty counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
McGinty throws a body kick, spinning off balance

so Jenkins counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jenkins prevents McGinty from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McGinty is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McGinty looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Jenkins is defending well. McGinty quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Jenkins has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! McGinty celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
