PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Asko Vilenius (ranked 3865 p4p, 501 weight class) and Steven Fromm (ranked 5036 p4p, 599 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Fromm's choice of entrance music: The Village People-YMCA. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vilenius throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Fromm closes the distance and pushes Vilenius back into the cage.
Fromm tries for a takedown but Vilenius manages to get underhooks.
Fromm fails to pull guard.

Vilenius escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fromm uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Vilenius.
Fromm tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vilenius swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vilenius throws a hook but Fromm avoids it easily.
Fromm closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The crowd cheers as Vilenius lands an impressive looking overhand right. Fromm doesn't seem phased though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fromm tries to clinch but Vilenius is having none of it.
A head kick misses from Fromm.
Vilenius swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Fromm.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vilenius lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Fromm rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Vilenius moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fromm wants to clinch up but Vilenius keeps it at a distance.
Fromm throws a nice looking combination but Vilenius bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
We've been hearing reports that Vilenius has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Fromm moves into the clinch successfully.
Fromm has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vilenius is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Asko Vilenius has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Fromm.
Fromm goes for a takedown attempt but Vilenius pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Fromm tries to clinch but Vilenius moves out of range.
Vilenius was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Fromm moves out of range as Vilenius strikes.

Vilenius feints and as Fromm raises his hands in defense, Vilenius changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Fromm looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Vilenius passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vilenius looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fromm with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Vilenius takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vilenius winds up and cracks Fromm with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Fromm is rocked!
Fromm wants to improve his position but Vilenius is controlling well.

Fromm is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Vilenius pulls his head out easily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Vilenius scores with a big shot! Fromm's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Fromm! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
