Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spike Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Carter is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spike Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Carter!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Columbo Gatti and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smith as he jumps to the side.
Carter is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Smith has his takedown stuffed

and Carter counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Smith's guard now.
Carter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Carter is controlling him.
Smith is trying to keep Carter in close.

Carter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Carter wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.
Carter stands up over Smith, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Carter wants to get up but he can't break Smith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Smith feints and as Carter raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Smith is breathing heavily.
Carter punching from the bottom.
Carter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Carter wants to stand up but Smith is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Carter working for a triangle but Smith defends it easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith dodges the punch combination from Carter.
Carter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Carter looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Carter wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Smith striking off his back but it's not causing Carter any problems.
Smith trying to keep a closed guard but Carter is proving a slippery customer.
Carter is pushing down on Smith's leg trying to pass to half guard. Smith is fighting to maintain full guard but Carter has managed to sneak the leg through.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Carter escapes and gets back to his feet.
Smith is looking to clinch.
Carter closes the distance looking to clinch
and Smith makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Carter really felt that one!

Smith clinches.

Carter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Carter, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Carter against the cage but Carter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Carter.
Carter cracks Smith with a big right hand but Smith just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Carter stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Carter shoots in.
Carter throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Smith counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Carter struggling a bit here.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carter keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Smith goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Carter rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Smith's guard! Nice work there by Carter!

Smith is working an open guard so Carter takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Carter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Spike Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Carter.

and Smith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Smith.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carter wants to stand and escape but Smith is having none of it.
Carter throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Spike Smith will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Carter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smith just stands there and leans against the cage.
Carter has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Smith is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Smith digs a right hand into Carter's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Carter's gas tank.
Smith lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Smith.
Carter should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Carter tries to break the clinch but Smith is controlling the position.
Smith tries to land knees in the clinch but Carter avoids the damage to the body.
Smith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carter walks away with a smile on his face. Smith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Spike Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Carter tries to clinch up

Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Carter sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Spike Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Carter.

Carter closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Carter pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Carter wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Smith lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Smith misses with an elbow over the top.
Smith is pressed up against the cage. Carter has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Carter clobbers Smith with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

A bit of stalling here from Carter.
Carter drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Smith gets the underhooks and prevents it.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Smith misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Carter.
Smith wants a takedown.

Carter pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Smith is working Carter over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Smith has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Carter uses from the top position.
Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carter manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter tries to clinch

and Smith counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Carter's guard now.
Smith postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Smith throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Carter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Smith wants to stand and escape but instead Carter has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Carter wants to stand but Smith is controlling his posture from full guard.
Smith lands an upkick as Carter stands over him.
Smith doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Carter distracts Smith with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carter darts in trying to clinch
enabling Smith to counter with a crisp jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter tries to clinch up.
Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Carter is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Carter circles away and we're back to standing.
Carter tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Carter scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Carter wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance.
Carter feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Smith's calf.

Carter gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Carter is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Smith rather than just go for the knockout.
