PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rex Ruger (ranked 2882 p4p, 152 weight class) and Dan Sergeant (ranked 1762 p4p, 89 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rex Ruger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Sergeant!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruger closes the distance and clinches up with Sergeant, looking for a takedown. Ruger pushes Sergeant against the cage but Sergeant circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sergeant changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ruger tries to avoid it but Sergeant manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ruger to the ground. Ruger escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sergeant fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ruger avoids it really well and circles away.
Sergeant misses with a hook. Ruger ducked under it nicely.
Ruger shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sergeant but Sergeant pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Sergeant closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Ruger makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Sergeant shoots in but Ruger avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rex Ruger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Sergeant.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sergeant can do anything to dispel that myth.

Sergeant manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Horrible takedown attempt by Ruger or perhaps it was just good defense by Sergeant, which made it look bad.

Ruger shoots in and bounces Sergeant off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Sergeant pushes Ruger off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Ruger throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sergeant's waist but Sergeant gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ruger off to one side.

Sergeant fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ruger on the side of the head.

Sergeant is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rex Ruger will probably get the nod.
