PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ao Ki (ranked 2275 p4p, 277 weight class) and Peter Heart (ranked 3698 p4p, 407 weight class). Heart has chosen Eric Church - Record Year as his entrance music. Ao Ki could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Peter Heart's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ao Ki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Heart!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ki moves into the clinch.

Heart is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ki can't fight it off and eventually Heart manages to take the fight to the floor. Ki looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Heart throws a big right hand that misses.

Ki has his foot on Heart's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Heart works his way back into a safe position though.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Heart working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Heart lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ki is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Heart defends well.

Ki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Heart doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Heart manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ki seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Heart got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ki has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Heart has managed to get both his arms back between Ki's legs - danger averted.

Ki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Heart gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Heart stands up over Ki, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Ki wants to control the position but Heart says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Ki gets back to full guard.

Ki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Heart can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Heart stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ki swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ki looking to hit a scissor sweep but Heart is one step ahead there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ki throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Heart escapes and throws Ki's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Heart looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Heart connects with a nice short shot to Ki's temple.

Ki sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Heart seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Peter Heart showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Heart is working Ki over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Peter Heart comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Heart winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Peter Heart spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
