The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ponkan shoots for a double leg takedown but Walker sprawls well. He's pushed Ponkan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Walker counters with a takedown into side control.
Ponkan is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Ponkan prevents Walker from moving into mount.

Ponkan can't do much from the bottom here.

Ponkan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ponkan is not content to let Walker control the position.
Walker scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Walker slips a nice elbow through Ponkan's hands, connecting with Ponkan's forehead.
Walker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ponkan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ponkan moves into full guard.

Ponkan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Walker defends it easily.
Walker cracks Ponkan with a solid left hand.

Ponkan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ponkan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Walker postures up and lands a big shot to Ponkan's brow.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker is pushing down on Ponkan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ponkan is fighting to maintain full guard but Walker has managed to sneak the leg through.
Ponkan wants to control but Walker is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Walker moves nicely into side control.

Ponkan is looking to regain half guard here but Walker keeps moving and retains side control.
Ponkan is not content to let Walker control the position.
Walker cracks Ponkan with a big right hand but Ponkan just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ponkan takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Walker lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ponkan down.
Ponkan wants to control but Walker postures up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tex Walker dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Walker counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Ponkan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Walker can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Walker is working Ponkan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Ponkan throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Walker escapes and throws Ponkan's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Walker scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Ponkan is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Walker can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
