PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Havasu (ranked 20344 p4p, 228 weight class) and Jaylon Figures (ranked 6924 p4p, 177 weight class). Figures comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Standing in the rain kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Havasu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jaylon Figures!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Figures scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Figures frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Havasu on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Havasu tries to get out of the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Havasu tries to lock up and control but Figures gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

It looks like Figures might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Figures is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Havasu has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Havasu!

Figures stays in close to Havasu's body and controls the position.
Figures has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Havasu is proving hard to escape from.

Figures trying to stand up but can't free himself from Havasu's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Figures is stalling in the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Figures is continuing to stall.
Figures throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Havasu works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Figures throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Havasu doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Figures counters with a nice body shot.
Havasu digs a good hook to Figures's body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Havasu.
Figures tests Havasu's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Havasu fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Figures is looking for the big counter here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Havasu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Havasu shoots in looking for a takedown. Figures tries to sprawl out of it but Havasu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Figures manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A little jabbing left from Figures on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Havasu dives in for a single leg takedown but Figures sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Havasu shoots in but Figures avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Figures takes the fight into the clinch.
Figures is pressed up against the cage. Havasu has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Figures down to the mat. Figures avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Figures counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Havasu!
Jaylon Figures has got the better of the ground game so far.
Havasu is trying to control Figures's posture but Figures avoids it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Figures works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Figures takes a little break here. Havasu wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Figures is trying to get an arm triangle but Havasu is defending well.

Havasu tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Figures wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Figures has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Figures in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Figures takes a little break here. Havasu wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Let's hope that Figures has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Figures has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jaylon Figures showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Figures closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Havasu did well to prevent Figures getting side control.

Figures lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Figures looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Havasu with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Havasu is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Figures lands a nice short elbow.

Figures lands a big shot there that rocks Havasu but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Havasu takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Figures's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
