And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Elijah Carr!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCarthy is looking to clinch.
McCarthy lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carr circles away quickly and effectively.
McCarthy tries to clinch up but Carr circles away and keeps his distance.
McCarthy lands with a cross.
McCarthy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
McCarthy could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
McCarthy scores with a body shot.
Carr tries to clinch there but McCarthy circles away.
Carr throws a lazy right hand but McCarthy sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Carr avoids a punch combination nicely.

Carr lands a jab to McCarthy's midsection.
McCarthy shoots in for a takedown but Carr shows good takedown defense.
McCarthy swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Carr counters with a two punch combo.
McCarthy closes the distance but Carr moves to the side
and Carr counters with a nice body kick.
McCarthy falls off balance throwing a combination
and Carr counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Nice uppercut lands for Carr. That snapped McCarthy's head back.
McCarthy misses with a takedown
letting Carr counter with a right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John McCarthy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carr tries to bum rush McCarthy with a series of wild strikes but McCarthy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carr trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
McCarthy keeping moving, preventing Carr from controlling successfully.

Carr gets to his feet. McCarthy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
No joy there for Carr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A combination from Carr does no damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and McCarthy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Elijah Carr will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Carr counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McCarthy's guard now.
Carr cracks McCarthy with a solid left hand.
Carr wants to control from the top but McCarthy keeps moving.

Carr works over McCarthy with some ground and pound from guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carr works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Carr is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Carr wants to control but McCarthy is keeping him busy.

Carr wants to work for an arm triangle but McCarthy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Carr stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows McCarthy to get to his feet.

and Carr cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

McCarthy misses with a hook to the body
and Carr counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
McCarthy takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Carr misses with a series of wild punches.
McCarthy tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Carr makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Carr counters with a nice double leg into side control. McCarthy won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carr tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
McCarthy is pushing Carr's head away, looking to escape. Carr manages to hold on to the position though.
A control attempt from McCarthy but he's now mounted!

Carr won't let McCarthy get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

McCarthy wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
I really don't envy McCarthy right now.

Carr looking for the RNC.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carr is trying to stick to McCarthy's back but McCarthy is turning into Carr. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Carr's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by McCarthy.

Carr has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes McCarthy off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Carr looks to land a body kick but McCarthy moved away.

McCarthy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Carr counters with a left to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elijah Carr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Carr lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
McCarthy throws a left and a right that both miss

John McCarthy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carr is pushing down on McCarthy's leg trying to pass to half guard. McCarthy is fighting to maintain full guard but Carr has managed to sneak the leg through.

and Carr counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for McCarthy!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carr tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The referee warns McCarthy that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Carr looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Carr is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but McCarthy is surviving well by controlling Carr's body position as best he can.
McCarthy is looking to get to half guard.

BOOM! Carr connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Carr trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Carr fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
McCarthy is looking to get to half guard.
A nice elbow there by Carr.

Carr working for a guillotine from mount but McCarthy is in no mood to give up.
Carr scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McCarthy is looking to improve his position but Carr isn't that keen on the idea.
McCarthy is working hard here to advance position.
McCarthy wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Carr keeps control of the position as McCarthy tries to break free.
Carr is not going to allow McCarthy to sit and survive in this position.

Carr looking to break McCarthy's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. McCarthy remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Carr will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Carr working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

McCarthy is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.

Elijah Carr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carr has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
