The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Peterson tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.
Smith is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Smith has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Peterson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Peterson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the ropes.
Smith is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Peterson is defending well.
Peterson throws a punch but it's blocked by Smith.

Smith tightens his grip and picks Peterson up, before dumping him to the ground. Peterson manages to land in guard.
Peterson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Smith is controlling him.
Smith slips nicely into half guard.
Smith is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Peterson!
Peterson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Peterson wants to control but Smith is having none of it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith working for a guillotine from mount but Peterson is in no mood to give up.
Smith tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Smith has control of Peterson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Peterson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Peterson is in all sorts of trouble here.

Smith is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Peterson is surviving well by controlling Smith's body position as best he can.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
