PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sydney Woods (ranked 25139 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim St John (ranked 5785 p4p, 554 weight class). St John has chosen Machine gun Kelly - Till I Die as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sydney Woods!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
St John misses with an attempted mid kick.

St John pushes Woods up against the cage in a clinch.

Woods breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

St John shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Woods is trying to control the position from the bottom.
St John trying to control but Woods is working from the bottom.

Woods has his foot on St John's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. St John works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
St John with a flurry of punches that miss.
St John trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
St John is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
St John content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

St John lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
St John stops Woods from standing up.
St John looking to sit in guard and control but Woods gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

St John has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Woods has passed into side control.
St John tries to improve position but can't.

St John is trying to control Woods's posture but Woods avoids it.

Woods working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Woods tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Woods has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
St John is looking to regain half guard here but Woods keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.

Woods looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
A nice inside leg kick there by St John. That's going to slow Woods down.
Woods has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Woods there as he acknowledges the shot.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
St John misses with a low kick as Woods jumps back.
St John works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
St John scores with a nice strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tim St John dominated that round.
That's time! Woods's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



St John closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
St John is keen to just control but Woods is a slippery customer.

Woods is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but St John pulls his head out easily.
St John trying to control the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
St John has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
St John thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Woods's head.

St John drops an elbow to the side of Woods's head.
St John missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Woods makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Woods.
Woods really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
St John looking to pass the guard.
St John connects with a couple of short punches.
St John loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Woods escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. St John gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

St John really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Woods. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
St John trying to control but Woods is working from the bottom.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells St John's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
St John with a flurry of punches that miss.
St John throws a big elbow that misses.
St John looking to pass the guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
St John misses with a double jab.
St John just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromWoods.
Tim St John seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts St John, as that shot connected.
St John scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


Woods is rocked!
Woods drops his hands for a split second and St John immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Woods face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. St John follows up with a right hand that knocks Woods into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Tim St John!
Tim St John seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
