PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Glen McDonald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McDonald comes to the cage accompanied by Roxanne. Glen McDonald had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Glen McDonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Head!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head looks to land a combination but McDonald avoids it well.
Good leg kick by Head there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
McDonald tries to clinch up.
Horrible takedown by McDonald or perhaps it was just good defense by Head which made him look bad.
McDonald tries to land a front kick but Head steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Head cracks McDonald with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.


It looks like Glen McDonald has been cut.
Head with a lazy takedown attempt

and McDonald counters with a single leg into guard. Head didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McDonald won't allow Head to get back to his feet.
McDonald looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Head wants to stand up but McDonald is controlling him.
McDonald seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Head wants to stand and escape but McDonald is having none of it.

McDonald is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Head is trying to control the position but McDonald postures up.

Head wriggles free and stands up.
Head wants to clinch but McDonald slips to the side

and McDonald counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McDonald.
Head wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Head gets underhooks to prevent McDonald's takedown attempt.

McDonald's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Head shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Head showed some decent athleticism there.
McDonald blocking the ground and pound attempt from Head.

Head trying to control the action but McDonald is working from the bottom.

McDonald is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Head pulls his head out easily.
McDonald is breathing heavily.
Head is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Head wants to stand but McDonald has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
McDonald is pressing down on Head's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Head trying to control but McDonald is working from the bottom.
Head wants to get up but he can't break McDonald's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

McDonald keeping moving, preventing Head from controlling successfully.
Head wants to stand but McDonald has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Head trying to control the position from guard on top but McDonald is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Head has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of McDonald is proving hard to escape from.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McDonald closes the distance and pushes Head back into the cage.

McDonald has clasped his hands together around Head's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Head throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Sloppy strikes there by McDonald.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDonald prevents Head from escaping the position.

Head is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The referee asks McDonald politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. McDonald prefers to stall for the moment though.
Head tries to strike but it doesn't land.
A lull in the action here as McDonald stalls from top position.

McDonald decides to stand up, so the ref orders Head to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McDonald throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Head's head.
Head keeps the fight on the outside.
Head tries to bum rush McDonald with a series of wild strikes but McDonald uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Head counters with a shoot takedown. McDonald fights it but they end up in guard.
Head wants to pass the guard but McDonald is keeping the position.
Head advances position into side control!
McDonald is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Head not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Head thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing McDonald to regain full guard.
McDonald managing to control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Head pushing down on McDonald's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Head wants to take a breather but McDonald is having none of it.

and Head counters with a single leg into guard. McDonald didn't expect that.

Head is staying active underneath McDonald, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Head slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Head is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McDonald has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Head can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and McDonald counters with a head kick.
Head goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

McDonald gets caught flat footed, as Head shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Head lands a couple of decent looking shots.
McDonald has a closed guard, preventing Head from standing up.

McDonald looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Head gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
McDonald tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Head counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

McDonald wants to sweep but no luck.

Richard Head showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! McDonald's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Head connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Head instigates a clinch.
McDonald has Head pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Head manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Richard Head seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDonald shoots in but Head avoids the takedown attempt easily.

McDonald wants to pass the guard but Head is keeping the position.

Head misses with a few strikes there.
McDonald does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McDonald avoids the body shot from Head.
Head is looking to clinch but McDonald is avoiding it.
McDonald tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Head throws a series of punches but McDonald moves out of range.
McDonald throws a head kick but Head moves out of range.

Head gets a takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Head connects with a nice short shot to McDonald's temple.
McDonald keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Head throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

McDonald wants to control but Head is keeping busy.
Head throwing shots but McDonald is blocking nicely.
Head sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Head seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
McDonald preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Head is stalling here. McDonald is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Head seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and McDonald has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Head is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on McDonald's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Head manages to get to full guard.

Head working for a triangle but McDonald defends it easily.
McDonald is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Glen McDonald.
I think McDonald has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
