PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dwain Randall (ranked 5898 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny McSlapya (ranked 5792 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dwain Randall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johny McSlapya!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McSlapya pushes Randall up against the cage in a clinch.

McSlapya turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and McSlapya manages to end up in side control.

McSlapya swings around for an armbar but Randall sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McSlapya's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McSlapya can do anything to dispel that myth.

McSlapya isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Randall stacks McSlapya on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Randall!
Randall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
McSlapya is trying to improve his position.

Randall is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McSlapya is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McSlapya is looking to regain half guard here but Randall keeps moving and retains side control.

Randall is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McSlapya knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Randall working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Randall is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McSlapya is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McSlapya is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Randall tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Randall tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
McSlapya tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Randall presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Randall goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now McSlapya is on top in guard.
McSlapya looking to sit in guard and control but Randall gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Randall gets to his feet - McSlapya follows without any prompting.

Randall closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Randall decides to pull guard.
Randall wants to stand but McSlapya is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Randall has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McSlapya can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Randall bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McSlapya's guard.

Randall tries to stand but McSlapya is controlling from the bottom.
Randall wants to control from the top but McSlapya keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Randall slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dwain Randall dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A decent looking cross lands there for McSlapya.

McSlapya closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Randall to the mat! Randall manages to get full guard.
Randall tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Randall trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
McSlapya stops Randall from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McSlapya trying to move into half guard but instead Randall has managed to sweep!

Randall slips nicely into half guard.

Randall with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Randall trying to control from half guard but McSlapya is working away.
McSlapya pushes Randall off looking to stand but Randall dives back in and keeps control.
McSlapya is breathing heavily.
Randall content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Randall is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McSlapya is just riding it out for now. Randall eventually gives up the hold.

Randall is looking for a kimura but McSlapya is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Randall to get the leverage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Randall has managed to clinch.
McSlapya is trying to push Randall away but Randall has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

McSlapya gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Randall regains guard.
McSlapya must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Randall bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McSlapya's guard.

Randall content to stall in guard here.

Randall decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on McSlapya, up you get!

Randall gets a clinch.

McSlapya pulls guard successfully.
Randall is looking to stand up but McSlapya won't let him.
Randall advances to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Randall looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Randall is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Randall moves into the clinch.
McSlapya takes an elbow to the temple.
Randall wants a takedown but no success here.
A short left from Randall.

Randall wants the takedown. McSlapya is fighting it off but Randall persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in McSlapya's guard against the cage.

McSlapya is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Randall presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McSlapya tries to break free but Randall pushes him back against the cage.

Randall jumps guard and drags McSlapya to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McSlapya prevents Randall from getting back to his feet.

Randall is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McSlapya defends well.
Randall can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McSlapya controls the pace.
Randall manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McSlapya manages to get himself to full guard.

McSlapya takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Randall working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Randall is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McSlapya can do to turn this around?

Randall is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Randall seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Randall closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on McSlapya's face as he tries to break the clinch.

McSlapya has Randall pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. McSlapya pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Randall tumbling to the mat - McSlapya dives into Randall's guard.

Randall is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Randall drops down looking for an ankle pick but McSlapya pulls his leg out and moves away.

Randall clinches.
Knees in the clinch landing for Randall.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McSlapya throws a head punch that misses.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Randall as McSlapya tries to tie him up.
Johny McSlapya has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dwain Randall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Randall changes levels and goes for a takedown here. McSlapya fights it off and pushes away nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dwain Randall showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Randall, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
