PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Giovanni Chase (ranked 24097 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Diggin (ranked 5889 p4p, 0 weight class). Dominic Diggin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Giovanni Chase!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dominic Diggin!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diggin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Chase to the ground. Diggin is now in Chase's guard.
Diggin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Diggin throwing strikes but missing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chase keeping moving, preventing Diggin from controlling successfully.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chase utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Chase wants to stand and escape but Diggin is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Chase tries for a takedown but Diggin manages to get underhooks.

Diggin wants the takedown. Chase is fighting it off but Diggin persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Chase's guard against the cage.

Chase kicks Diggin off and gets to his feet.
Chase really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Diggin takes the fight into the clinch.
Diggin wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Chase has him pressed against the cage.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Diggin has eaten all the pies!

Diggin successfully pulls guard.
Chase prevents Diggin from getting back to his feet.
Diggin is pulling down on Chase's head to control his posture.
Diggin looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Chase puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Chase is nestled in close to Diggin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Diggin tries to get to full guard but Chase has control of the leg.
Diggin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Chase.
Chase stops Diggin from getting back to his feet.
Diggin is looking to improve his position.
Chase looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Chase is working for a kimura but Diggin is defending it quite comfortably.
Diggin is trying to control but can't.

Chase looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Diggin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Diggin is trying to stand up here but Chase is controlling him well.
Chase thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Diggin's head.
Diggin is trying to maintain the position but Chase is very close to passing his half guard.

Chase is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Diggin pulls his head out easily.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Diggin in particular looking to stall.
Diggin prevents Chase from improving his position.
Still in half guard, Diggin seems content to control.
Chase is trying to stand back up but Diggin is controlling him
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chase moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Chase wants to hit a switch here but Diggin passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Chase there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Giovanni Chase will probably get the nod.
That's time! Chase's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Diggin throws a head kick but Chase moves out of range.

Diggin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Chase quickly recovers to half guard.
Chase moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Diggin stops Chase from standing up.
Chase bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diggin's guard.

Diggin looking for a sweep. Not yet Diggin, not yet.
Chase with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diggin has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Chase has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Diggin stops a takedown attempt from Chase.
Diggin presses Chase against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Chase turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Diggin explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Diggin tries to close the distance and clinch but Chase swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Diggin is breathing heavily.
Diggin wants to control from the top but Chase keeps moving.
Diggin tries to free his leg and advance position but Chase is retaining full guard.
Chase is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Chase has his feet on Diggin's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Diggin throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Diggin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chase manages to get to full guard.
Diggin postures up.
Chase is looking to stand up but Diggin isn't so interested in that idea.
Diggin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Chase has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diggin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Diggin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Chase.
Chase shoots in for a double leg but Diggin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Chase has managed to clinch.
Diggin can't find room to land a body shot as Chase controls the action.

Diggin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Chase counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Chase is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diggin is just riding it out for now. Chase eventually gives up the hold.

Diggin wants to control but Chase is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dominic Diggin will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Diggin lands with an uppercut that bounces Chase off the cage and back into range.

Diggin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Diggin can't do much from the bottom here.
Diggin tries to buck Chase off but Chase is having none of it.
Chase looks up at the clock and then as Diggin takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Chase smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Chase scores with a couple of short elbows.
Chase lands a few punches from side control.
Diggin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Diggin regains half guard.
Diggin wants to sweep but Chase has passed to side control!
Diggin sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Chase is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Chase looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Diggin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Chase has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chase winds up and cracks Diggin with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Chase postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Diggin to stand up.

Diggin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Chase looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Chase throws Diggin to one side and escapes!

Chase rushes Diggin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Chase gets control of Diggin's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chase will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Diggin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chase is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Diggin, into his guard.

Chase lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Giovanni Chase showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Chase has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
