The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn closes the distance and clinches up with liddell, looking for a takedown. Penn pushes liddell against the cage but liddell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from liddell. No joy for Penn on that attempt.
Penn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around liddell's waist but liddell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Penn off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vitor Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.

It looks like sergio liddell has been cut.
Penn shoots in but no luck this time.
Vitor Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

liddell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Penn looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

liddell fails to land a wild elbow strike.

liddell has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
liddell fails in his attempt to clinch.
liddell throws a nice outside leg kick.

liddell is looking to clinch but Penn is avoiding it.

liddell lands a head kick that stumbles Penn and the fighters go to the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Penn is working an open guard so liddell takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Oh Penn is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from liddell! Penn is out on his feet! liddell rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Penn is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Penn is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
