The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valdez clinches up with Kanton and pushes him back against the cage.

Valdez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Kanton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kanton missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kanton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Valdez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Valdez gets back to full guard.
Valdez wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kanton's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Valdez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Valdez looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kanton puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Valdez wants to get back to full guard.
Kanton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Valdez misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Kanton has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Valdez defend it? Kanton steps over the head and cranks it - Valdez is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Kanton!
