PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Son Goku (ranked 5800 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alphonso Aguilar (ranked 3929 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Son Goku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alphonso Aguilar !
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aguilar swats away the attempt to clinch by Goku.
Aguilar gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Goku.
Son Goku seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aguilar takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Aguilar takes the fight into the clinch.
Goku tries to land knees in the clinch but Aguilar avoids the damage to the body.

Aguilar pulls Goku into guard.
Goku trying to control but Aguilar is working from the bottom.
Goku throwing strikes from guard but Aguilar blocks nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aguilar pulls Goku in close to prevent any damage.
Goku throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Aguilar works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aguilar keeping moving, preventing Goku from controlling successfully.
Aguilar is controlling Goku's posture.

Aguilar is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Aguilar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Goku. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Goku throws a big elbow that misses.
Aguilar is pulling down on Goku's head. It's preventing any offense from Goku, at least for the moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Goku trying to control the position from guard on top but Aguilar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Aguilar looking to score a takedown here. Goku is defending well but Aguilar drives through and ends up in Goku's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Goku manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Aguilar manages to break the clinch.

Aguilar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Goku manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Goku trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Goku striking off his back but it's not causing Aguilar any problems.
Goku will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Goku really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Goku doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Goku wants to stand and escape but Aguilar is having none of it.
Aguilar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Aguilar sitting in guard here, content to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Goku has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Aguilar has passed into side control.
Goku is breathing heavily.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Aguilar stands up and beckons Goku to his feet.
Decent striking displayed by Goku there.
Goku throws a hook but Aguilar blocks it.
Aguilar with the counter takedown but Goku avoids it easily.
Goku is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Aguilar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Goku to the mat! Goku manages to get full guard.
Aguilar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aguilar postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alphonso Aguilar will probably get the nod.
That's time! Goku's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A jab from Goku misses.
Goku sets himself, and Aguilar steps forward looking for the clinch! Goku avoids it this time.

Aguilar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Aguilar scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Goku prevents Aguilar from improving position.
A lull in the action here.

Aguilar is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Goku has escaped the position, nice work there.
Goku has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
You can see the frustration on Goku's face as Aguilar controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Goku tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Goku is trying to escape the mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Goku throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Aguilar sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Goku swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aguilar working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Alphonso Aguilar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Aguilar landing punches.

Aguilar goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Goku is on top in guard.
Aguilar has control of Goku's left arm, preventing Goku from doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Goku won't allow Aguilar to get back to his feet.

Aguilar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goku gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Aguilar wants to stand but Goku is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Aguilar is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Goku wants to control from the top but Aguilar keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Aguilar instigates a clinch.
Goku takes a knee to the side of the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alphonso Aguilar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Goku wants to get back to his feet but Aguilar drags him back down.
Goku seems a little lost for a moment, as Aguilar dominates the positioning.
Goku throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Goku misses with a strike from the bottom.
Goku gets back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aguilar is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Goku throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Aguilar manages to pass to side control.

Aguilar has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Aguilar closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Goku quickly recovers to half guard.

Aguilar postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Goku to stand up.

Aguilar closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Goku's guard.
Aguilar works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Aguilar trying to pass the guard but Goku defending well.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Aguilar connects with a nice short shot to Goku's temple.
Aguilar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Goku with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Still in half guard, Aguilar seems content to control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Aguilar lands a nice short elbow.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Let's hope that Aguilar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Goku is looking for a sweep. Aguilar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Aguilar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Aguilar landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Aguilar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Aguilar passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Goku!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Aguilar lands a heavy elbow.
Aguilar tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Aguilar with a couple of short strikes.
Aguilar controlling the position easily from mount.
Aguilar landing strikes from the mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alphonso Aguilar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Aguilar winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
