Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Huey Ball!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Slava Kychenkov!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Illya Tyunina and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kychenkov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ball tries to avoid it but Kychenkov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ball to the ground. Ball escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kychenkov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ball is fending him off so far but Kychenkov persists. Nope, Ball circles away and we're back to standing.

Kychenkov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ball sprawls well initially but Kychenkov persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kychenkov is taking a breather. Ball says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Ball trying to hold on to Kychenkov's head to control him but Kychenkov postures up.
Ball tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ball is looking to control Kychenkov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ball avoid being mounted?
Ball tries to kick Kychenkov off but Kychenkov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kychenkov perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kychenkov fails with the takedown

and Ball counters by clinching up.
Huey Ball has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Slava Kychenkov.
Kychenkov is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ball is defending well.
Ball is struggling to control the position.

Ball breaks from the clinch.
Kychenkov has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Ball.
Kychenkov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ball pinned against the cage. Ball gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kychenkov turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Ball is looking for a sweep.
Ball can't do much from the bottom here.
The ground and pound from Kychenkov seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Kychenkov is looking to take a break and control but Ball is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kychenkov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ball, who protects the arm well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kychenkov grinds an elbow into Ball's temple.
Ball is trying to escape the position but Kychenkov is controlling the position.
Kychenkov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ball keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ball prevents Kychenkov from improving position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Slava Kychenkov will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kychenkov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ball is pushing Kychenkov's head away, looking to escape. Kychenkov manages to hold on to the position though.

Ball is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kychenkov asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Slava Kychenkov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ball's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Ball has his foot on Kychenkov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kychenkov works his way back into a safe position though.
