Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joey Tophat (ranked 8083 p4p, 491 weight class) and Kron Diego (ranked 7053 p4p, 464 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Tophat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kron Diego!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diego shoots in looking for a takedown. Tophat tries to sprawl out of it but Diego keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Tophat manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Diego looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tophat is fending him off so far but Diego persists. Nope, Tophat circles away and we're back to standing.

Diego changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tophat looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Diego is looking to take a break and control but Tophat is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tophat can't do much from the bottom here.
Tophat manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Tophat wants to control but Diego is keeping busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tophat is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Diego really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tophat. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Tophat is looking to sweep but instead, Diego has passed into half guard.

Tophat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diego is working away from the top position though.

Diego is looking for a kimura but Tophat is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Diego to get the leverage.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

The fighters circling - Tophat throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Tophat throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Diego on the side of the head.

Diego blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Tophat has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tophat drops back, looking for a kneebar! Diego looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Diego looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Diego!

Tophat fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Diego has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

and Diego counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joey Tophat.
I think Tophat has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
