Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vadimas Gaizutis (ranked 5701 p4p, 556 weight class) and Victor Stroev (ranked 7863 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vadimas Gaizutis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Victor Stroev!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gaizutis closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Stroev quickly recovers to half guard.
Gaizutis wants to stand but Stroev has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Gaizutis trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Stroev works his way to full guard. Good work.
Gaizutis wants to stand but Stroev is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stroev looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gaizutis is one step ahead there.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Stroev clinches up with Gaizutis and pushes him back against the cage.
Gaizutis is pushing Stroev up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Gaizutis pulls guard successfully.
Stroev tries to free his leg and advance position but Gaizutis is retaining full guard.
Stroev working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Stroev looking to pass the guard.
Stroev trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gaizutis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Stroev.
Stroev sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gaizutis's guard.
Stroev not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gaizutis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stroev to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Gaizutis has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Stroev has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Gaizutis jumps guard.
Stroev wants to get up but he can't break Gaizutis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Stroev trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gaizutis is breathing heavily.
Gaizutis preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Stroev works over Gaizutis with some ground and pound from guard.
Stroev seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Gaizutis fails with the takedown
and Stroev counters with a right hand to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Victor Stroev will probably get the nod.
That's time! Gaizutis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Gaizutis tries to clinch up
and Stroev counters with a left and a right that stings Gaizutis.
Gaizutis closes the distance and clinches up with Stroev, looking for a takedown. Gaizutis pushes Stroev against the cage but Stroev circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Stroev slaps away a takedown attempt from Gaizutis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Stroev shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gaizutis defends it nicely.
Gaizutis shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vadimas Gaizutis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

You can see the frustration on Gaizutis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Stroev wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gaizutis, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A control attempt from Gaizutis but he's now mounted!
Stroev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Stroev is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gaizutis has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Stroev breaks from Gaizutis's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Stroev content just to control the position here.

Stroev jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Gaizutis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Gaizutis and Stroev has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stroev tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Gaizutis is not content to let Stroev control the position.
Sloppy strikes there by Stroev.

Victor Stroev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Stroev gets a clinch.
Gaizutis is trying to drag Stroev to the mat but Stroev just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Stroev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gaizutis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gaizutis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stroev is fending him off so far but Gaizutis persists. Nope, Stroev circles away and we're back to standing.

Stroev gets caught napping as Gaizutis dives in and scores a takedown. Stroev manages to retain guard.

Gaizutis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stroev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gaizutis has managed to get both his arms back between Stroev's legs - danger averted.

Stroev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gaizutis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gaizutis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gaizutis wanted to stand there but Stroev had control of the position.
Stroev looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stroev can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gaizutis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Stroev is proving hard to escape from.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Gaizutis shoots in for a double leg but Stroev sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Stroev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Stroev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gaizutis keeps working.
Stroev tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Gaizutis keeps Stroev under control for a moment.
Stroev tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Stroev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gaizutis is looking to reverse the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
You can see the frustration on Gaizutis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stroev wants to stand but Gaizutis is controlling his arm.

Well Stroev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
