PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jess Blanchard (ranked 8670 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Reese (ranked 7013 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jess Blanchard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Reese!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reese uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Blanchard.
Reese doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

Blanchard looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Reese!

Reese throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Blanchard got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reese has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Blanchard has managed to get both his arms back between Reese's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Horrible takedown attempt by Reese or perhaps it was just good defense by Blanchard, which made it look bad.

John Reese showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Blanchard shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Reese as he avoids it easily.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Reese! But no joy.

Reese closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Reese misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Reese creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Blanchard sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

John Reese comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Reese has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
