Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Erik Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Adolph Capers!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Capers rushes Hughes and presses him up against the cage.
Hughes tries to pull guard but Capers holds him up against the cage and eventually Hughes drops back down to his feet.
Hughes wants to take the fight to the mat but Capers manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Capers pulls guard.
Capers seems keen to control Hughes's posture.
Hughes throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Capers has Hughes pulled in close to control his posture.
Hughes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes throws a strike but Capers rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hughes keeping full guard, as Capers tries to pass.
Hughes looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Capers cracks Hughes with a solid left hand.
Capers sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Hughes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Capers looking to pass the guard.

Capers gets to his feet. Hughes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Capers tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Capers rushes Hughes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Capers tries to score a body lock takedown but Hughes shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hughes wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Capers decides to pull guard.
Capers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hughes's guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hughes working for submissions but it's allowed Capers to get to half guard.
Hughes regains full guard. Nicely done.
Capers's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Hughes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Capers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Capers is stalling in the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Capers works over Hughes with some ground and pound from guard.
Capers working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hughes's head.

Capers gets to his feet - Hughes follows without any prompting.

Capers is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hughes's half guard.
Well, if Capers is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adolph Capers dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hughes fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Capers checks it well.

Capers shoots in and bounces Hughes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.


Hughes is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes being controlled here, momentarily.
Oh Hughes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Capers pushing down on Hughes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Hughes seems to have got his legs back now.
Capers keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Capers has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Capers lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Capers controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Capers has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Hughes defend it? Capers steps over the head and cranks it - Hughes is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Capers!
