PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Evgenii Mamchenko (ranked 1935 p4p, 236 weight class) and Matt Kroblur (ranked 1466 p4p, 177 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Evgenii Mamchenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Matt Kroblur!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mamchenko connects with a looping right hand.
Kroblur tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mamchenko was well out of range. Poor timing from Kroblur.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We've been hearing that Mamchenko has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Mamchenko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kroblur has escaped the position, nice work there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mamchenko is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kroblur doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mamchenko.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kroblur wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mamchenko manages to pass to side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

It looked like Mamchenko was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

That was a close second round but I would say that Evgenii Mamchenko will probably get the nod.

Kroblur got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mamchenko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kroblur has managed to get both his arms back between Mamchenko's legs - danger averted.
Kroblur seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mamchenko shoots for a double leg takedown but Kroblur sprawls well. He's pushed Mamchenko's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kroblur unleashes a big counter combination but Mamchenko bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Kroblur ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Mamchenko closes the distance and clinches up with Kroblur, looking for a takedown. Mamchenko pushes Kroblur against the cage but Kroblur circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mamchenko is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kroblur can do to turn this around?
Kroblur tries to bum rush Mamchenko with a series of wild strikes but Mamchenko uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mamchenko dives in for a single leg takedown but Kroblur sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Evgenii Mamchenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kroblur tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mamchenko defends well and Kroblur ends up having to push Mamchenko into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Mamchenko takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Mamchenko is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mamchenko lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Mamchenko.
Matt Kroblur has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mamchenko has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

I think Mamchenko has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
