Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Denker (ranked 8897 p4p, 656 weight class) and Julio Torres (ranked 5832 p4p, 529 weight class). Julio Torres has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Denker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Julio Torres!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torres dives in for a single leg takedown but Denker sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Torres doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Denker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Torres won't be happy with that.

Torres bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Denker closes the distance but Torres moves to the side
and Torres counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Torres throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Torres gets control of Denker's arms and successfully pulls guard. Torres will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Denker wants to control from the top but Torres keeps moving.
Denker forces his way into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Denker wants to work for an arm triangle but Torres is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Denker is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Denker has control of Torres's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Torres regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Torres is looking to get to half guard.
Denker throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Denker wants to control the pace but Torres is squirming around nicely.
Denker moves to the back.
Denker has the hooks in. Torres is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Denker working for a choke but Torres is defending well.

Torres defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Denker's arms.

I really don't envy Torres right now.

Denker looking for the choke from the back.

Denker is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Torres has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Torres is trying to get back to his feet but Denker has full control of the position and if anything, Torres has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Denker looking to break Torres's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Torres remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Denker will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Torres tries to roll but Denker sticks to his back.
Torres turns into Denker and is now in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Torres working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Torres accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Denker is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Torres defends well.
Torres pushing down on Denker's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Torres content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jon Denker will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Denker misses with a right hand
and Denker takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Torres closes the distance and clinches.
Torres leaning against his opponent.

Denker successfully pulls guard.
Torres postures up in Denker's guard and throws a big left but Denker blocks it.
Denker is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Torres showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Denker looking for a sweep. Not yet Denker, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Denker working for a triangle but Torres defends it easily.
Denker trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Denker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Torres is one step ahead there.
Denker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Denker is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Torres trying to control but Denker postures up.

Denker is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Torres is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Torres tries to kick Denker off but Denker keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Denker is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Torres still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Torres has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Denker seems a little lost for a moment, as Torres dominates the positioning.
The strikes coming from Torres are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Torres laying and praying for a moment but Denker takes advantage and regains half guard.
Torres passes to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Torres goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Denker has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Torres but great work by Denker.
Denker scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Torres to see if he's OK.
Denker gets to mount! Torres was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Denker content just to control the position here.
Torres wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Denker.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Torres is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Denker dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Denker avoids the head kick by Torres.

Denker gets tackled into the cage by Torres. Torres maintains the clinch.

Torres has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Denker is trying to keep an underhook but Torres manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Torres really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Denker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Torres throws a strike but Denker avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Torres not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Denker is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Torres frees his head nicely. Oh but Denker has switched to an armbar! Torres is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
