Arones has chosen Lonely is the night as his entrance music. Gabriel Arones has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Larry Shreve Jr's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shreve Jr misses with a hook

and Arones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Shreve Jr won't be happy with that.
Shreve Jr is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Blake Phoenix's Champion Factory that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arones creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Arones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shreve Jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shreve Jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Arones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shreve Jr defends well.

Arones has his foot on Shreve Jr's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shreve Jr works his way back into a safe position though.

Arones had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shreve Jr defends it easily.

Shreve Jr has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Arones is on him like a limpet, forcing Shreve Jr back against the cage.

A punch lands to the side of Shreve Jr 's head but he takes it in his stride.

And Arones tries to counter it with a takedown but Shreve Jr pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Shreve Jr is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Arones has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Shreve Jr seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Arones can turn it around.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Arones drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Shreve Jr dives on top into guard.
