PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Choong Il Lee (ranked 25416 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tshilomba Mwekassa (ranked 4154 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Choong Il Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tshilomba Mwekassa!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, David Hoff and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lee.

Mwekassa scores with a takedown into Lee's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lee escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mwekassa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Lee is looking to stand up but Mwekassa isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mwekassa is one step ahead there.

Mwekassa drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lee dives on top into guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Mwekassa has control of Lee's left arm, preventing Lee from doing any damage.
Lee in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Mwekassa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lee defends it easily.

Lee got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mwekassa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lee has managed to get both his arms back between Mwekassa's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mwekassa has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lee is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mwekassa.
Mwekassa is looking for a sweep.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mwekassa is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Mwekassa looking for a sweep but Lee has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Mwekassa throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mwekassa is wriggling around trying to escape.

Lee jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mwekassa manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Mwekassa is trying to improve his position.
Mwekassa is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Mwekassa tries to bench press Lee off him but Lee keeps the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mwekassa is not content to let Lee control the position.
Mwekassa is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mwekassa looks to move to half guard but instead Lee has passed into mount! Damn!
Mwekassa gets back to half guard.
Mwekassa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lee is working away from the top position though.
Lee thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Lee prevents Mwekassa from standing back up.

Mwekassa tries to get to full guard but Lee has control of the leg.

Mwekassa looking for a sweep. Not yet Mwekassa, not yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lee prevents Mwekassa from getting back to his feet.
Lee working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mwekassa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lee is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Choong Il Lee dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mwekassa misses with a takedown attempt
and Lee counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Lee seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Lee will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lee enables Mwekassa to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lee manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Lee wants to sweep here but Mwekassa controlling him for the moment.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mwekassa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Lee wants to stand but Mwekassa is controlling the position.
Mwekassa wants to stand but Lee has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mwekassa throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Mwekassa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lee napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Mwekassa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
You can see the frustration on Lee's face as Mwekassa controls the position.

Mwekassa swings around for an armbar but Lee sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mwekassa's guard.

Mwekassa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mwekassa tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Mwekassa looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Lee has picked Mwekassa up and slammed him! Mwekassa can't keep hold of the triangle and Lee manages to pass to side control!
The strikes coming from Lee are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
You can see the frustration on Mwekassa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Lee has control of an arm but Mwekassa manages to advance to Lee's back!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mwekassa is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Mwekassa doesn't have the hooks in and Lee manages to turn into his guard.

Lee wants to control from the top but Mwekassa keeps moving.
Mwekassa wants to sweep but no luck.
Mwekassa throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Mwekassa looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lee wants to get up but he can't break Mwekassa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Lee is standing up over Mwekassa. Mwekassa looks to escape but Lee dives into side control.
Mwekassa is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mwekassa tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Mwekassa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Choong Il Lee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mwekassa is not content to let Lee control the position.
Mwekassa is looking for a sweep.

Lee thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lee wants to stand but Mwekassa has his arm trapped.

Lee is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mwekassa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Choong Il Lee will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Mwekassa throws the left hand but Lee avoids the punch easily.
Lee takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Mwekassa shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lee is trying to defend but Mwekassa finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mwekassa thows a huge punch but Lee dodges it nicely.

Mwekassa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lee doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mwekassa.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lee shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mwekassa as he avoids it easily.

Mwekassa has managed to clinch.
Lee fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Mwekassa decides to pull guard.

Mwekassa is looking for a triangle but Lee pushes his legs off easily.
Mwekassa is trying to control the position but Lee postures up.
Mwekassa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Mwekassa controls Lee momentarily but Lee frees himself.

Mwekassa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lee defends well.

Mwekassa will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Mwekassa is taking a breather. Lee says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mwekassa not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mwekassa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lee keeps working.
Lee is trying to control but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mwekassa controlling the pace.
Mwekassa thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lee's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tshilomba Mwekassa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lee has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
