PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jerede Baya (ranked 5052 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shahwali Hussainzada (ranked 3898 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jerede Baya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shahwali Hussainzada!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, David Hoff and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hussainzada looking to score a takedown here. Baya is defending well but Hussainzada drives through and ends up in Baya's guard.
Baya is trying to keep Hussainzada in close.

Baya is looking for a triangle but Hussainzada pushes his legs off easily.
Hussainzada with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hussainzada controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hussainzada tries to stand but Baya is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hussainzada postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Hussainzada is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Let's hope that Hussainzada has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Baya bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hussainzada's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Baya is pushing down on Hussainzada's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hussainzada is fighting to maintain full guard but Baya has managed to sneak the leg through.

Hussainzada really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baya. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hussainzada throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Baya goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Baya shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hussainzada but Hussainzada pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Baya fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
No joy there for Hussainzada, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Hussainzada counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hussainzada.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jerede Baya. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hussainzada has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Baya uses from the top position.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Hussainzada manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Hussainzada goes for a takedown in the clinch but Baya prevents it.
Baya is trying to force a seperation but Hussainzada has the dominant position.
Hussainzada is pushing Baya up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Hussainzada has Baya pressed against the cage, preventing Baya from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee is keeping an eye on Hussainzada - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Hussainzada tries to throw a body punch but Baya avoids it by throwing Hussainzada back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Baya wants to get up but he can't break Hussainzada's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Baya is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Baya is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Baya is trying to stall.
Baya can't get the takedown.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Shahwali Hussainzada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Baya throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hussainzada's waist but Hussainzada gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baya off to one side.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Baya accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Baya wants to stand but Hussainzada is controlling his posture from full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hussainzada holds on and takes a little breather.

Shahwali Hussainzada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hussainzada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
